I moved into my teeny tiny Dickinson dorm on Thursday and have been so busy I haven’t been able to update my blog until now. I love my dorm and I love my room mate! She moved in yesterday and we have been hanging out together ever since.
Move-in: I unloaded the two cars with all of my stuff in them and waited half an hour for the RA’s to let us check in so they could give us the keys to our room. I walked up the narrow staircase to the second floor, and put the key into the lock of the door that would lead to the small room that I would be living in my entire freshman year of college. I opened the door and simply said: “No.” Then I stopped, took out my phone, and took a picture for Holly, my room mate. She texted me back quickly and said: “It looks like a jail cell!!!!”…..Exactly what I was thinking.
During move in, I met a girl named Sam, who is on the floor under me, and I could tell right away that we were going to get along. Sam and I unpacked everything, said goodbye to our parents, and went to the pick up point where Sam and I met a sophomore who would escort us to a group of other freshman. In our group, Sam and I met another girl named Marni. The three of us became friends right away. I always hear stories about people meeting their best friends within the first few days of college and I didn’t think it would happen to me. SURPRISE! The three of us have spent every night together and before our room mates moved in, we spent all day together. I couldn’t be happier at the University of Delaware.
My room mate: I love Holly! We have even more in common than I thought. We think the same things, have the same taste, love clothes, shopping, and ice cream, and I know already that we’ll get along. I see other people that are complaing that their room mates are already bothering them, but I have nothing bad or remotely negative to say about Holly.
Yesterday (Holly’s move-in): While Holly was moving in to our tiny dorm, I walked to Main Street (which is AMAZING, if you’ve never visited UDel it’s definitely something you want to see when you do visit) and bought my books. It killed me to hear the final price of my texts books, even though I was buying most of them used. Textbooks are so expensive! Anyway, when I got back Holly was here and she and I settled in a little more, went to a floor meeting with our RA, and then went to our building meeting. After that, we walked around main street a little more and eventually came back to our dorm, showered and hung out with my friends I mentioned earlier, Sam and Marni, and their room mates. It was a really fun night!!
Today: Holly and I slept until 11:00, woke up, and went to brunch at the Rodney Dining Hall. The food was very good! I was pleasantly surprised. I ate eggs, hash browns and a peach yogurt parfait. Holly and I decided that it was close enough to lunch that we could help ourselves to the self serve ice cream machine, so we did =) YUM! Tonight we’re going to dinner and to the activity fair. There’s never nothing to do here at Udel, that;’s for sure. I’ll blog again soon! Don’t forget to check out the pictures I’m going to put up of my dorm room and Holly and I.
