I cannot believe the semester is over!!! I AM A SENIOR IN COLLEGE!!!! Where did the time go?! It’s unbelievable.  Now that classes are over, and most of my finals are done, I am in full swing for Miss Delaware prep while also still working in Philadelphia at the Academy of Music!  I am still SO busy, but I am definitely not complaining.  I am living in Newark this summer and am commuting to Philadelphia for work a few days a week.  I still can’t believe I have entered the real world as an intern for the Philadelphia Orchestra Association…it’s pretty wild.

I guess I should mention something about the pictures I posted up above!  I had an appearance at the Go Red For Women luncheon at the Christiana Hospital here in Newark and had a lot of fun.  My table was set up next to the table for the Delmarva Blood Bank and my sister titleholder and I decided that after our appearance at the luncheon, we would go across the street, give blood at save a life.  We both had donated blood before here at the UD blood drives for the Delmarva Blood Bank (they have a bunch throughout the year).  We showed up in our dresses with our crowns in our bag and donated blood.  On our way out we even scheduled our next appointment to donate.  Anything I can do to save a life or make someone else’s life a little easier, I will do.  Donating blood is a simple gesture (at least for me) and I will do it as much as I can!

We had our last Wind Ensemble concert of the semester and it was amazing. We played some absolutely incredible pieces, and everyone’s performance was strong throughout the concert. I am so lucky to be able to play and perform with such amazing musicians! I love what I do here at UD.

I ran in my first ever 5K this past weekend with a few of my friends and my mom! I ran the race in 31 minutes, placed 10th in my age group and 111th overall.  I am SO proud of myself for doing so well in my first race!  I have been so busy recently because I am involved in so much right now, and am trying to do as much as I can within the organizations in which I am involved.  I have so many pictures to post! The springtime is my favorite time of year at UD. Please check back soon to see what I have been up to on my road to becoming Miss Delaware!! :-)

This semester is turning out to be one of my best semesters so far. I am getting closer with my friends, and loving every minute of life as a student at UD. Organizing my every day life is getting easier, and I can’t wait to see where I will go from here. :)
This is a picture of me with a few of the sisters in the music fraternity that I am a part of: Sigma Alpha Iota. All of these girls are absolutely wonderful, and thanks to Greek life at UD, they’re all my best friends.

Back In The Swing of Things…

My goodness! I can’t believe it’s Spring semester of my junior year…ALREADY. I swear I say this too much but: time is going by faster than I could have ever imagined.  I am only a student at UD for two more semesters after this one. It’s so hard to believe!  I know that this semester will be one of the most challenging, but I also can tell already that it is going to be over before I know it.  I love all of my classes, and all of my professors are so engaging…even in World History (which is not a class I would typically enjoy going to).

I also can’t believe that I am back from studying abroad in London…no one on the trip really wanted to come home.  We all agreed that we could have stayed there for an entire semester. It was truly incredible.

Now that I am back in Delaware, I feel like I have never left. It is great to see all of my friends again, and be back into the swing of things as a student at UD.  I still absolutely love it here.  I wouldn’t change anything about my time and experience at the University of Delaware…at all.

This past weekend we had the chance to travel wherever we wanted within Europe. Half of our group went to Dublin, Ireland and the other half went to Paris, France.  I went to Paris.  It was incredible.  I was only there for two nights and it most definitely was not long enough.  The Eiffel Tower and the Louvre were the highlight of my trip to Paris, and staying in a hostel near the Moulin Rouge was also an experience within itself.  It’s not a matter of “if” I will go back to Paris, it’s more like “when” can I book a flight?!

My Weekend in London

Oh man. I was doing so well blogging every day…until the weekend. Woops! Well, anyway, I have done some REALLY cool things I have done recently that I need to update my readers on.

On Saturday, a few of my girl friends and I went to Harrods.  I must say, that is one insanely crowded and expensive store.   It was really hard to find my way through the store, and thought that it was pretty wild that you shop there by designer.  We started at the top of Harrods, and worked our way down to the Harrods gift shop, which carries Harrods gifts and accessories that are more in my price range.  I bought myself a purse, a wallet and a Harrods watch.  Three wonderful items I will have to remember this incredible study abroad experience.

After Harrods, we walked around the block and found a restaurant to have lunch.  The restaurant way okay…I won’t be rushing back there any time soon to eat there again.  We then took the Tube home and relaxed and got some of our reading done for class (which we had today).

On Sunday, we woke up, got breakfast, did more of our reading for class, and then a few of us met for lunch.  After lunch, we went to Westminster Abbey to a service so that we could hear the choir sing in the Abbey.  I got the chills when the choir entered.  It sounded absolutely incredible.  The service was exactly an hour long (not too long, not too short), and then we went to eat dinner.  We stayed close to the Abbey because we were going back at 5L30pm for an organ concert.  The organ concert was breath taking.  The organ in the Abbey is gigantic.  The vibrations from the organ made the whole Westminster Abbey shake and vibrate, and it resonated through my body. It was AMAZING.  One of the most interesting observations I had at the concert: there were far more young/middle aged people at the organ concerts than there were older people.  Sounds quite different than America, doesn’t it? Hmm…

London Eye, Oh My!

I wrote out an entire blog about an hour ago and as it was loading to Tumblr, the website froze and my entire blog went away, except for one picture.  Our internet at the hotel is spotty like that…anyway, I had another amazing and busy day in London.  And I promise that I won’t say that again, because I am pretty sure that every day will be an amazing and busy day here in London.

I started my day bright and early this morning by going to the London Eye with my friends.  The London Eye is a gigantic ferris wheel (but don’t EVER call it a ferris wheel to the locals… they don’t like that very much) where you get into a large “pod” and slowly raise up to the top of the wheel, and on the way see the entire city of London.  The view from the top is absolutely incredible.  I could see everything.  If anyone reading this is planning a trip to London, and the wheel is running when you’re here, definitely pay the 15 pounds to ride the London Eye. It is SO worth it!

We got to the Eye early this morning because we knew we had class at 1pm this afternoon, and since we were done with the ride by 9:45am, we decided we would take our time, take in the sights of the city and walk back to the hotel.  We walked past Big Ben, the Westminster Abbey, through Piccadilly Circus, and went to see the changing of the guard.  Where else could you take a morning stroll and see all of those incredible pieces of history?! It was truly amazing.

We got so carried away during our walk that time flew by and we didn’t realize it was just about lunch time.  Instead of going back to the hotel before going to class, we stopped at a small restaurant known for their fish and chips (even though I don’t eat fish…I got a turkey sandwich).  Lunch was good!  I learned that “yellow mustard” in London is 100% different than “yellow mustard” in America.  I loaded my sandwich with mustard, bit into it and my sinuses cleared…it tasted like I was eating straight horse radish.  Definitely a surprise! Now I know…

After lunch, we went to our first day of class.  Our classes are in a beautiful building right down the street from our hotel in a small room that most definitely does not look like a classroom.  It is beautiful! I will take a picture of the classroom on Monday and post it on here.  We went over our final class schedule and I could not be more excited about taking classes here…there are so many opportunities to talk to very influential people in the music world.  One of the coolest things, I think, is that whenever we have a guest speaker come and talk to us, we also have the opportunity to join them for dinner after their lecture.  It will give us the opportunity to ask questions and get to know our lecturers in a more casual environment.  We are going to so many incredible concerts, and oh my gosh, there are just so many amazing opportunities for all of us studying here in London.

Happy Weekend! =)
