I cannot believe the semester is over!!! I AM A SENIOR IN COLLEGE!!!! Where did the time go?! It’s unbelievable.  Now that classes are over, and most of my finals are done, I am in full swing for Miss Delaware prep while also still working in Philadelphia at the Academy of Music!  I am still SO busy, but I am definitely not complaining.  I am living in Newark this summer and am commuting to Philadelphia for work a few days a week.  I still can’t believe I have entered the real world as an intern for the Philadelphia Orchestra Association…it’s pretty wild.

I guess I should mention something about the pictures I posted up above!  I had an appearance at the Go Red For Women luncheon at the Christiana Hospital here in Newark and had a lot of fun.  My table was set up next to the table for the Delmarva Blood Bank and my sister titleholder and I decided that after our appearance at the luncheon, we would go across the street, give blood at save a life.  We both had donated blood before here at the UD blood drives for the Delmarva Blood Bank (they have a bunch throughout the year).  We showed up in our dresses with our crowns in our bag and donated blood.  On our way out we even scheduled our next appointment to donate.  Anything I can do to save a life or make someone else’s life a little easier, I will do.  Donating blood is a simple gesture (at least for me) and I will do it as much as I can!

We had our last Wind Ensemble concert of the semester and it was amazing. We played some absolutely incredible pieces, and everyone’s performance was strong throughout the concert. I am so lucky to be able to play and perform with such amazing musicians! I love what I do here at UD.

I ran in my first ever 5K this past weekend with a few of my friends and my mom! I ran the race in 31 minutes, placed 10th in my age group and 111th overall.  I am SO proud of myself for doing so well in my first race!  I have been so busy recently because I am involved in so much right now, and am trying to do as much as I can within the organizations in which I am involved.  I have so many pictures to post! The springtime is my favorite time of year at UD. Please check back soon to see what I have been up to on my road to becoming Miss Delaware!! :-)

Spring Break this year was great. We went to Hutchinson Island, Florida and spent our time there just relaxing and laying in the sun. It wasn’t too hot or too cold, so it was perfect! I’m going to try to bring this weather back home with me to Newark…but I’m not sure I can. I can’t wait for the nice weather back home!

The Value of My University of Delaware Education

As a student at the University of Delaware, I have been given the tools and confidence to reach my scholastic goals.  My classes have prepared me for the real world, and my professors have been nothing but supportive and encouraging.  I recently took a huge step in following my dreams of landing an internship at the Philadelphia Orchestra, and thanks to the confidence and preparation from my education at the University of Delaware, I went from having a successful phone interview, to a fantastic in-person interview, to landing the internship.  Now I find myself as the Academy of Music Restoration Fund Development Intern at The Philadelphia Orchestra, one the five major orchestras in the United States.  If I have to start somewhere, why not start big?  My dream of working for the Philadelphia Orchestra has become a reality, which is still really hard to believe, but I could not be more excited and ready to show the world who I am and what I can bring to the table.  I am ready for the real world, and I know it is thanks to the incredible education I have received at the University of Delaware.

WOAH and CONGRATS

What is “woah,” you may ask? The fact that I am already sore from my first personal training session today with Marcellus at BFit Enterprises here in Newark, Delaware.  I am preparing for the physical fitness portion of the Miss Delaware competition in June, and can’t believe that after Day 1 of working out, my muscles feel sore.  I will be going to the incredible University of Delaware Fitness Center in between training sessions.  So many ways to stay healthy on and off campus!

Also - A VERY WELCOMING CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF THE HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS WHO RECEIVED THEIR UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE ACCEPTANCE LETTERS TODAY!!! Come to UD, and you will experience the best four years of your life.

Jacki enters the “real world”

So here I come, real world! I can’t believe it.  I have two interviews next Friday for internships with the Philadelphia Orchestra.  It has been my dream ever since becoming a Music Management major at the University of Delaware to work and/or intern for the Philadelphia Orchestra.  Whenever people would ask me what I want to do with my degree, I always answered “Oh, I don’t know. Probably work behind the scenes at the Philadelphia Orchestra.” Funny thing is…I find myself preparing for not one, but two interviews at the Philadelphia Orchestra. Is this real life?!

Please wish me luck this Friday around 3pm as I enter the real world and have my first two job interviews in one day.  The University of Delaware has prepared me for the real world so I know I am ready to rock these interviews!

I’ll keep my blog updated as I prepare and finish my first real-world interviews.

Watch out, world! Here comes Jacki.

Hey!

My biggest advice to you is to visit campus as many times as you can. When you are here make sure you fill out a visitors card at the admissions building on campus.  The admissions officer that sees your application will see that you are sincerely interested if your file says that you have visited campus more than once.  Another thing that will help you stand out is a very original essay.  Your college essay is what your admissions officer will use to get to know you.  The UD admissions officers read ALL of the essays and seriously take into consideration how you come across in your essay, how much you stand out, how well they get to know you through your writing.  Make sure your college essay is about something that makes you unique. No two people are the same, right? What makes you different? Think about that when writing your college admissions essay.

Hope this helps! :-) Let me know if you have any more questions.

Little Miss Busy

WOW…my gosh I do not remember the last time I was this busy. It is rare for me to find a time to sit down, relax and do nothing, which explains me writing a blog post at 11pm on a Monday…

Anyway, I have some REALLY exciting news: I recently interviewed for an internship at the Philadelphia Orchestra. This is a HUGE deal because internship interviews definitely are not easy to obtain.  I was really nervous at first, but as I got more comfortable, I think that my interviewer could tell how passionate I was/am about working with the Philadelphia Orchestra. I can’t wait to hear back from them!

I have had class, tests, quizzes, rehearsals, Miss Delaware prep. etc., and I am really working hard to stay on top of everything.  I recently sprained my ankle, and since going to the gym is out of the question, I have spent time trying to get ahead of the material I am working on in my classes.

My class schedule may not be as crazy as it has been in the past, but I am surely finding ways to make myself crazy…I mean, keep myself busy. It’s all in preparation for the real world!
