First Day in London (written 1/2/13)

Well, I think that saying “I’m absolutely exhausted” is an understatement.  Our six hour flight seemed as though it lasted forever.  I got to the Philadelphia Airport yesterday evening at 3:45pm, waited there for a while for our flight to board, and then did some more waiting on the aircraft as we waiting to take off.  Usually a 6 hour flight isn’t that bad because you can sleep, however, since we took off at 6:30pm, no one was tired yet.  We all knew we had to try to sleep at least a little, but ended up in London 99.9% sleep deprived.  And our bodies thought it was 1am…oomph.  All 14 of us stayed awake, surprisingly, on our short bus ride to the hotel.  We got to the hotel (and it is only 7am London time), the sun still wasn’t even trying to come up, and only two of the hotel rooms were ready. Again…oomph.  We stuffed everyone’s luggage into the two rooms, then went for a short walk to see where our classes will be held.  Our classes are about a 5 minute walk away from our hotel in a Florida State University building.  It is a really cool building from the outside! I can’t wait to see what it looks like from the inside.  Anyway, after seeing that, Dr. Anderson (our faculty advisor) took us to a small shopping plaza where we could buy our “London phones” and explore a grocery store.  My London phone looks like one of the first cell phones that I owned quite a few years ago, but hey, it was cheap!  Our group didn’t last long walking around and ended up back at the hotel sitting in the lobby talking, and eventually feeling a bit delirious.  We all were laughing at things that would not have normally been funny…I think that tomorrow will definitely run a bit smoother after all of us have gotten a good amount of sleep.  I am writing this as I am trying to keep myself awake, so I admit that it’s a bit of a rant.  Hopefully my posts will be more interesting, and make more sense after I get a good nights sleep tonight…

I had an appearance last night as Miss Newark with the TOPS program! We went bowling, and I showed off my bowling skills…that I do not have. Needless to say, everyone else that I was bowling with kicked my butt! :) it was a great event, and I LOVE putting smiles on people’s faces, especially as Miss Newark. I look forward to all of my appearances in the future. Happy Holidays everyone!

BEST place for a meal…

I didn’t have Hebrew class today, so I decided to take the free time I had before Rep Class to practice my flute since I am playing for my peers today.  I ran through my piece a few times and then looked at my phone to see that I still had about an hour to kill before class.  I decided to treat myself to lunch at Claymont Steak Shop.  It’s definitely one of my favorite places to eat for sure.  It is technically “off campus” but is also right next to the music building and right near the Freshman dorms.  All of the food here is outstanding!  I have definitely blogged about eating here before…but when you come and visit campus, COME EAT AT CLAYMONT STEAK SHOP! You will not be disappointed. I promise.

I am finally all moved in to my apartment. I came back yesterday, but it has taken me until now to feel 100% settled, with all of my clothes put away and all of my groceries in the fridge. Tomorrow I have ensemble auditions. I’m a little nervous…I hope it goes okay. Then classes start on Tuesday! It’s Junior year……ALREADY?!?!?!??! woah…time is flying by.

For Girl Scout Day (which I mentioned in my previous blog) I was in charge of a station called “Music of the World.” When I was planning for the station, I came across this song and I absolutely LOVE it.  It is from the UK! She’s so funky, and her voice is so powerful. Obsessed!! Next big thing in America? Maybe?

Artist: Emeli Sande

Song Title: Next To Me

The end of Sophomore year

I sign up for classes today, which is always an experience.  I have all of my classes chosen already so hopefully it won’t be too bad.  I just can’t believe I am going to be a Junior in college next year! Time is flying by so fast it is frightening.

All of my classes are still going full throttle even though classes end in less than a month. My professors are all trying to fit in their last minute lesson plans and projects, especially in my music classes.  In Music History I have an assignment due on Monday about 14th/15th century music, and in Harmony I have to compose a graphic score and turn it in next week.  In college you don’t slow down toward the end like in high school! You are learning until the very last day of classes.

Other than going to class, I have been doing a lot with SAI. This past weekend we had a Girl Scout Day, where we helped Girl Scouts earn their music badge. We were at the Girl Scout building, which is conveniently close to campus, from 8am until 3pm on Saturday. Talk about a long day!!  The day went very well, and the girls loved it.  After Girl Scout Day, we walked to the Field House and sang the National Anthem for Relay For Life. It was very eventful.  Let’s just say I slept VERY well that night…

Beautiful weather…too bad I’ve been sick

It has been absolutely gorgeous outside the past few days.  Unfortunately, I got really sick on Monday and wasn’t able to enjoy the weather as much as I wanted to.  I went to Student Health on Monday night and they were absolutely wonderful.  The nurse was the best, and took such good care of me.  I am almost 100% better, and am almost done making up the work that I missed when I wasn’t able to go to class.  Now I can (hopefully) make it to the end of my Sophomore year without getting sick again! =)

I went on a retreat from Friday night to Saturday night with SAI (my sorority), and had an absolute blast. It was so much fun and I got to spend some quality time with my sisters! =) Already can’t wait until the retreat next semester!
